PART III PREVENTION OF BUSH FIRES

SECTION 17 - EXTENSION OF PROHIBITED BURNING PERIOD

Pursuant to Section 17 of the Bush Fires Act 1954 the Shire of Kojonup advises due to seasonal conditions the Prohibited Burning Period will be extended by two weeks from the 1st of March 2026 to the 14th of March 2026.

Fuel loads across the Shire are in a dry state and seasonal conditions across the region dictate that until we have substantial amounts of rain the risk to the community remains high.

Please note:

• Between 1st December – 14th March no fires are to be lit in the open air during this period,

• NO fire permits will be issued by Fire Control Officers,

• All conditions as outlined in the Shire of Kojonup’s 2025/2026 FIRE BREAKORDER remain unchanged with the exception to the Prohibited Burning Period,

• The Shire of Kojonup has the authority to extend the Prohibited Burning period further from the 14th of March 2026 should conditions warrant.
