Citizenship Ceremonies

A citizenship ceremony is where you make the Australian citizenship pledge. For most people, this is the final step in the journey to becoming an Australian. The Shire of Kojonup role in the citizenship process is to conduct citizenship ceremonies and to present attending candidates with their citizenship certificates.
Prior to being eligible to take part in a citizenship ceremony, you must have completed your application process with the Department of Home Affairs and have received your letter of approval from the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship.
The ceremony consists of:
- Welcome by Presiding Member;
- Indigenous acknowledgement;
- Australian National Anthem;
- Reading of the Ministers Message;
- Citizenship Preamble;
- Pledge or affirmation (depending on preference);
- Presentation of citizenship certificates; and
- Presentation of citizenship gift.
