PUBLIC NOTICE
Shire of Kojonup
Development Application
Proposed Kojonup Wind Farm and Transmission Line Infrastructure Consultation Closing Dates
Dear Community,
The Shire would like to provide an update regarding the public consultation period for the Development Application (DA) for the proposed Kojonup Windfarm.
This application is required to be determined through the Development Assessment Panel (DAP) process. A DAP is an independent decision-making body and is separate from the Shire’s normal planning process. Council will not determine this application although two (2) Councillors may sit on the DAP as local members.
Recently, the Shire published two public notices that have incorrectly showed different consultation closing dates. This occurred because the Shire misread the consultation requirements under the DAP framework, which are:
- Non-Authority Consultation (public) – 28 days
(community, neighbours, general public)
- Agency / Authority Consultation – 42 days
(State Government departments and technical referral agencies)
These two processes have different statutory timeframes. The Shire initially interpreted them as having the same consultation period for a complex application.
We have now been formally advised that the correct closing date for the Public / Non-Authority consultation period is:
Friday, 9 January 2026
The applicant has agreed to extend the community consultation period to this date to ensure the public has adequate time to provide feedback which exceeds the statutory minimum dates of 28 days from November 13th.
A formal public notice will be issued to reflect this correction.
The Shire apologises for any inconvenience or misunderstanding it may have caused with the public.
The Shire strongly encourages all community members to lodge their submissions as early as possible and before 9 January 2026.
The Shire will work with all public stakeholders to receive their submissions prior to the 9th January 2026.
If you require assistance or clarification on how to make a submission, please contact the Shire’s Regulatory Services team.
Regards,
Grant Thompson
Chief Executive Officer
